Events

Art n Rugby Events are all about bringing people together for some rewarding, and sometimes grueling, activity.  This portion of the platform is still being developed, as we need to figure out a way to divulge far more detail about events, such as level of difficulty, gear needed, and logistics.  Until we're better organized, please bear with us and look for the events on facebook.  Contact Dave with any serious questions.

Events are rated 1-5 on a scale of ART --> RUGBY.  An event with a rating of 1.1 requires no prior experience, knowledge, or physical demands.  It could include a class that introduces a practice such as meditation.  An event with a rating of 4.9 requires skill, knowledge, and fitness on the order of making a free-solo ascent of El Capitan. The rating for each event is included at the end of the event's description.

In a general sense, the scale looks something like this:

A->R 1-1.9   No experience necessary. While oversight is provided, participants should be age appropriate.  Includes most seminars, craft, and shop classes

A->R 2-2.9   Will include mild physical activity with proper instruction, but be prepared for whatever conditions may exist.  A classic example here would be a guided hike of sorts.

A-R 3-3.9    Moderate to extreme physical exertion, perhaps needing some prior knowledge or experience, but there will generally be support at any stage of the event.  An example could be an overnight paddling trip or x-c ski trek.

A->R 4-4.9   Extreme skill or fitness required, or some element of risk.  There could be a solitary component to this type of activity, or there may be no easy way out once engaged.

Regardless of the rating of the event, it is up to each participant to know their own skill level watch out for their own safety.  Even events with a rating of 1.1 might include the use of power tools, that if used improperly could cause serious injury or death. While ARE might sponsor an event, participants choose to engage of their own volition. ARE is not liable for their safety.

Wood and Clay Creations

January 11 and 18, Art & Rugby Woodshop and Tomorrow River Homestead, Nelsonville, WI

This program will spread over two Saturdays at the Tomorrow River Homestead, where the ARE woodshop is housed.  Each day will be broken into a session each of wood working and clay sculpting.  Novices are welcome, as these projects are designed to serve as introductions to these two disciplines.  A->R 1.5

Playin' With Fire

Saturday, February 22.  Art & Rugby Woodshop, Nelsonville, WI

We will learn, practice, and celebrate one of the most captivating and pervasive entities of our existence.  We will talk about the historic significance of fire  and some of the folklore and tradition around it.  Mostly, however, we will play with it.  How many ways can you come up with to start a fire?  This program will be fun for the whole family.  A->R 1.2-2.3

Straight-Lining 101

Saturday, April 4  1:00 pm at Ruby Coffee, Nelsonville WI

This will serve as an introduction to Straight-Lining.  Enjoy a leisurely jaunt, as the crow flies, from Ruby Coffee to a destination to be announced just before the start.  There will be no time keeping and no course.  The key is that you get more points for not using roads.  This event, as casual as it is, will not be for the faint of heart.  You will be forced to navigate your own route, making safety and judgement calls along the way.  Each participant is responsible for his or her own safety/well-being.  The success or lack there of for this event will determine if we ever try doing something like this again.  A->R 4,0
