Visiting Vs Travelling

At ARE, getting there is part of the experience.  feeling the wind on your face, struggling through the hills and the elements, sweating a little, and steeping ourselves in the geography of the lands and waters traversed in order to realize a destination all come with travelling as we know it.  Relying upon fossil fuels, setting the climate and cruise control, and missing so much of what goes by at 70 mph, or at 30,000 feet is part of an efficient way to visit a location, but it's not what we consider travelling.

Familiarizing ourselves with the transitory changes in temperature, elevation, eco-types, culture, and geography between our origin and our destination, as well as the effort it takes to actually get there, connects us more intimately with the landscape.  Travelling ties the corners of our world together in a bundle of experiences and memories that make us richer as individuals and broadens our concept of home.  Our experiences become rife with meaning rather than homogenized and identified by brands and artificial environments.  And we actually meet and talk to people along the way.
